- Born 1952 in London, Married with five children
Professional
- Worked for BBC for 10 years, last 5 of those years in the offices of the "MAN ALIVE" television programme, which then effectively changed its name to "40 MINUTES" both of which were documentary strands dealing in social issues of the time.
Left BBC in 1981
- Joined Metropolitan Police (London) in 1981.
- Worked at Wembley Police Station 1982-1989.
Totally rewrote the riot plans for the two large housing estates within that police area.
- In 1989 was seconded to North West London Police Headquarters to assist in developing a computer reference system for disaster management.
- In 1989 transfered to North West London Headquarters to take full time responsibility for
- rewriting and improving the North West London police HQ contingency plans for logistic and operational support for NW London.
- rewriting and improving the specific plans for Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena.
- attending all major incidents in North West London on 24 hour callout as part of the Incident Scene Command and Control. This included sieges and bomb scenes.
- attending all major policing events at Wembley Stadium to provide specialist disaster management knowlage if required.
- In 1992 transfered to Heathrow Airport police station (still within the Metropolitan Police service) on general policing duties.
- In 1995 became the full time Police Contingency planner for Heathrow Airport. (A fixed term tenure posting.) Became responsible for
- rewriting and improving the Heathrow police contingency plans.
- addressing disaster management issues
- writing the management briefings for tactical and stategic issues regarding disaster (Gold level and Silver level)
- writing specific role briefings for disaster management (Bronze level).
- liasing with other emergency services and the airport authority regarding contingency planning and disaster response.
- planning the police element of the annual licensing exercise in liason with other emergency services and the airport authority
- In 1995 was accepted as a full member of the Emergency Planning Society, London branch.
- In 1998, at the end of the fixed term tenure, returned to general policing duties. (Whilst continuing to assist in the running of exercises, and remaining current on procedures and policy.)
- In 2001 was accepted as a full member of the Institute for Civil Defence and Disaster Studies
- In August 2002 was seconded to the UK Home Office to work as Simulated Operations Development Officer at the
National Centre for Applied Learning Technologies working on the the Hydra and Minerva computer systems. These use Immersive Training techniques to assist senior managers learning of methods of dealing with Critical Incidents. (Rape, Murder, Sieges, Major Disaster.)
I am based at Bramshill, at what was the National Police Staff College. This later became part of National Police Training, reborn as Centrex and is now part of the National Policing Improvement Agency.
I have researched, written and crafted scenarios and storylines for Immersive Learning. Then designed and written documents, scripted feeds for recording, videoing. Then editing the raw material and Hydra programming the product. Basically all aspects of the process from beginning to end.
I then later facilitated the delivery of these exercises and training which concerned Public Order, Major incidents (disasters), and Critical Incidents.
These have been delivered to such disperate groups as Independent Police Advisors, Foreign Police Strategic Leaders, UK Operational, Tactical and Strategic groups and courses from CEPOL, the European Police College. These deliveries have been 'in house' and also in a variety of different venues across the county.
